As they do every year, WWE.com has named its Superstars and Divas to watch in the year ahead, opting for Eve Torres as the Diva to watch in 2012.

Of Eve, the website says: “With her stunning combination of beauty, brains and in-ring prowess, Eve will no doubt go down in WWE history as one of the most impactful Divas of all time. This bronze-skinned beauty’s continued study of Jiu-Jitsu has kept her at the apex of the Divas division, earning her a Divas Championship victory in a highly competitive Fatal 4-Way Match at the Royal Rumble last year. Will Eve net her third butterfly-emblazoned Divas Title in 2012? She’s made beliEVErs out of us.”

Last year, the website picked Tamina, and in 2010, voted Alicia Fox.

Thoughts: Unlike previous years, the website seems to be opting for already main event-level talent like Chris Jericho and Kane rather than picking from the new, younger names. Similarly, Eve has already found her feet in the Divas division, so picking her doesn’t exactly fall in line with the past years’ picks. It would’ve been cool to see them pick someone like AJ or Kaitlyn.

The “pin-up strong” pair of Divas Champion Beth Phoenix & Natalya have thrived by torturing Kelly Kelly & Eve, but the wicked duo couldn’t push around the so-called “Barbie Dolls” tonight. Rolling up her powerful rival out of nowhere, Kelly scored a huge tag victory for her team and sent the arrogant Divas a message that a pretty face should never be underestimated.

With the WWE Universe packing Madison Square Garden to the rafters at Survivor Series, Divas Champion Beth Phoenix reigned supreme over Eve in a Divas Lumberjill Match, defeating her with an earth-shattering super Glam Slam off the top rope.

With the beautiful Divas of WWE surrounding the ring on every side, Beth and her No. 1 contender set the ring ablaze from the opening bell. Despite Beth’s reputation for all-out supremacy, her fierce foe’s skill shined though, setting the stage for an incredible contest of guts and determination.

However, when the Divas Champion gained the advantage in their struggle on top of the ropes, she used her trademark finisher to drive her opponent to the canvas for the victory.

For several months, The Glamazon & Natalya set themselves up as a ruthless brand apart. Passing judgment on the so-called “Barbie dolls” – Divas who they consider lesser overall competitors – the dominant duo set out to make the objects of their scorn scream at any chance they got.

After The Fabulous Firebird overcame Eve at Vengeance, she and Natalya continued their mean-spirited attempts to break the will of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu-trained Diva, stealing her gear and Tweeting out pictures mocking her and toying with her golden ring attire.

With the support of Divas Kelly Kelly and Alicia Fox, Eve would fight back in the weeks that followed. First, she scored a tremendous measure of retribution on the Oct. 31 Raw SuperShow, dumping Natalya out of the ring to win a No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal to earn a rematch against Beth at Survivor Series. Then, she added insult to injury, heisting their powerful adversaries’ rental car.

With so many Divas playing key roles in the circumstances leading up to the Divas Title showdown, it was destiny that they would all play a part in the moment of truth. Earlier this week, WWE.com announced that Beth’s match against Natalya would be a Lumberjill Match.

In the Silver Anniversary of WWE’s second longest running pay-per-view, Divas Champion Beth Phoenix demonstrated once again why she is pin-up strong. Whether there is a Diva in WWE that will dare stand up to her dominance now remains to be seen.

Divas Champion Beth Phoenix will defend the title this Sunday at Survivor Series against Eve Torres in New York.  Eve won a second title match following a #1 Contenders’ battle royal on Halloween night. The pair faced off at last month’s Vengeance pay per view in a match that drew a lot of praise.

Let us see who will earn this title?

Similar to all of the babyfaces — including Beth Phoenix — hitting their finishers on a heel CM Punk a few months ago, WWE has made The Miz the target this time. On the current European tour, they’ve been doing spots where Miz is cornered by John Cena, Punk, John Morrison and Eve Torres, taking finishers from all four.

In this clip from Nantes, France a couple of days ago, Eve hits the moonsault on The Miz before celebrating with her colleagues. A big moment for Eve to be standing in the same spotlight as Punk and Cena.

It’s pretty much the standard piece — why did you want to be a Diva, injuries etc. — but this segment had a few interesting points. Firstly, the show revealed Alicia Fox and Kelly Kelly‘s real names which you don’t usually see in WWE authorized interviews, and they also mentioned each woman’s background. I like that they put over Eve‘s education, which puts over the Divas as smart as well as being sexy and brauny, which is usually what these interviews concentrate on.

The article that accompanies this video explains the situation, naming Alicia Fox as complicit in Eve’s prank. The WWE.com reporter writes:

What we didn’t know, and what I would find out later through a conversation with the perpetrators of this practical joke, is that we were being followed. Alicia Fox and Eve had been tailing us since we left Atlanta.

“I used to travel with Beth and Natalya a lot. Beth always drives; she always stops for orange soda and she always leaves her keys in the car. That’s her thing,” said the sly Alicia Fox, who masterminded this retaliatory prank. “Well, that, and being a total ‘B’.”

As for whether or not car theft puts Eve into sticky legal territory, well, they’ve covered that neatly:

Beth and Natalya both suggested that the police be contacted, but we were informed that under John Laurinaitis, all rental cars for talent are booked with multiple Superstars/Divas listed as drivers, since at any given moment a new driver might be needed to get from city to city.

“It’s a safety net, really,” said a Talent Relations representative at WWE HQ. “We never expected anyone to abuse the fact that any Diva can drive any Diva’s rental car to do something like this, but, it’s not illegal. It’s not very nice, but neither are they.”

Eve has certainly escalated this feud, taking it from mean-yet-simple Twitter pranks to car theft. If she’s just upped the stakes, what do you think the Divas of Doom will do in retaliation?
